【Financial News, Jeju = Reporter Jeong Yong-bok】 A nationwide event featuring bicycle rides covering 6 km through downtown Jeju and 52 km along the eastern coastal road will be held in November. Programs to promote everyday transportation will include a downtown march with up to 500 participants, a long-distance coastal ride, safety education and free bicycle repairs.
According to Jeju Special Self-Governing Province on the 19th, the Ministry of the Interior and Safety and Jeju Province will jointly hold the “2026 Bicycle Day Event” on Nov. 7-8 in and around Citizens Welfare Town in Jeju City and the Gujwa Coastal Road area.
Held under the theme “Two Wheels Connecting the Future, a Greener Jeju,” the event is aimed at bicycle users and cycling club members from across the country, as well as local residents and tourists. Its goal is to promote bicycles not only for tourism and leisure but also as an eco-friendly means of transportation for everyday use.
On the first day, the 7th, a bicycle march will take place in downtown Jeju City. From 10:30 to 11:30 a.m., riders will set out from Citizens Welfare Town and cover about 6 km, passing Health Center Intersection, Donam Intersection, Megabox Intersection, Yeonbuk-ro and Onam-ro, among other locations.
The event will have up to 500 participants. They will ride in groups based on bicycle type and riding experience, in a noncompetitive format with no times or rankings.
Some lanes on Yeonsam-ro and Yeonbuk-ro are scheduled to be closed from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. during the march. Drivers using those roads should check the event schedule and traffic restrictions.

On the second day, the 8th, a 52 km bicycle ride along the coastal road will run between Gujwa Gymnasium in Jeju City and Songnan Port in Seongsan-eup, Seogwipo City. Participants will follow the Gujwa Coastal Road past the eastern coastline and villages of Jeju, turn around at Songnan Port and return to the starting point.
The day’s events will begin at 9 a.m. with safety education and warm-up exercises. The ride will start at 9:30 a.m., and a supply station will be set up at Songnan Port, the turnaround point. Autonomous police officers and cycling experts are expected to accompany the riders and help ensure their safety.
Neither event will involve competition for speed or rankings. The downtown event will focus on the experience of riding safely together, while the coastal ride will offer a chance to take on a long-distance route and enjoy Jeju’s natural scenery.
Bicycle Day is a statutory observance designated for April 22 each year under the Act on the Promotion of Bicycle Use. The date represents the two wheels at the front and back of a bicycle, and the day is intended to encourage bicycle use and promote a culture of safe riding. Jeju’s commemorative event this year will be held in November.
The event venue will also offer inspection and repair services to help residents use bicycles safely. Programs will include free inspections and repairs in partnership with the Jeju City Bicycle Repair Center, safety education, and test rides on electric and unusual bicycles.
Events for children and families are also planned. On the 7th, there will be a children’s bicycle drawing contest, a unicycle performance and a talk with Park Chan-jong, a member of the national para-cycling team.

On the 8th, there will be a children’s race on pedal-free training bicycles and the “SingSing Bicycle Children’s Song Festival.” An activity in which participants use electricity generated by pedaling to make cotton candy and soap bubbles will also be offered on both days.
Participants can register on the event’s official website, and on-site registration is also available. However, eligibility and participant limits vary by program, and the children’s song festival accepts online advance registration only. Participants in the downtown march and coastal ride should check their start times and safety rules in advance.
Jeju Province is linking the event to its policy of expanding everyday bicycle use. It is pursuing policies to encourage cycling in daily life through initiatives including operating bicycle pilot schools, a program for commuting by electric bicycle and subsidies for electric bicycle purchases.
Kang Min-cheol, head of Jeju Province’s Transportation and Aviation Bureau, said, “We will create opportunities for bicycle users from across the country to ride together in Jeju, while continuing policies to promote bicycle use so that bicycles become an established, safe means of everyday transportation.”
