[Financial News] On the 18th, People Power Party leaders visited the funeral altar of the late Fire Lieutenant Kim Jin-seok, who died while battling a factory fire in Bucheon, Gyeonggi Province, and paid their respects.
Party leaders, including leader Jang Dong-hyeok and floor leader Jeong Jeom-sik, visited Kim’s funeral altar at the funeral hall of Soonchunhyang University Bucheon Hospital in Bucheon, Gyeonggi Province, that morning and offered their condolences to his bereaved family.
After paying his respects, Jang told reporters, “The state must protect the safety of firefighters who protect the lives and safety of the people. We need to review safety measures so that firefighters and others who protect people’s lives and safety can carry out their duties safely, and address any shortcomings.”
He stressed, “The state must take care to ensure that those who make sacrifices and work hard in the field to protect the lives and safety of the people receive the respect and treatment they deserve.”
Jang said, “Reading the letter written by the seven-year-old child feels like my heart is breaking,” adding, “The spouse’s one request—that the child be allowed to grow up well—weighs heavily on my heart.”
Jang wrote in the guestbook, “May the deceased rest in peace. We will never forget this noble sacrifice. The state will take even greater care to ensure that firefighters can carry out their duties protecting the lives and safety of the people.” Floor leader Jeong wrote, “We will etch deeply in our hearts this noble sacrifice made to protect the lives of the people. The Republic of Korea will never forget this noble spirit.”
Lee Gi-in, emergency committee chair of the New Reform Party, and floor leader Cheon Ha-ram also visited the funeral altar that day. Lee said, “From the Pyeongtaek Pems Logistics Center and the Anseong factory to this latest incident in Bucheon, firefighters have been tragically killed in the line of duty in Gyeonggi Province. Fire authorities and fire headquarters need to carefully review their on-site manuals, and the political and administrative sectors will work hard to support that process.”
The Democratic Party of Korea (DPK)’s floor leader Han Byeong-do and secretary-general Han Jeong-ae visited the funeral altar to pay their respects on the 17th, and DPK leader Kim Min-seok is scheduled to visit in the late afternoon of the 18th.
