As sleep deprivation continues to be a problem, people are increasingly seeking ways to improve the quality of their sleep. In response, bed and mattress makers are expanding their offerings to include products tailored to individual body types and sleep habits. Coway Co., Ltd. in particular is targeting the customized sleep market with products that not only adjust cushioning and firmness but also incorporate technology to analyze sleep conditions.
According to industry sources on the 18th, a report titled “2024 Sleep Conditions in Korea,” published by the Korean Society of Sleep Research, found that Koreans sleep an average of 6 hours and 58 minutes—18% less than the average for the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD). Just 7% of respondents said they got a good night’s sleep every day, roughly half the global average of 13%. This means that improving sleep quality, as well as sleep duration, is emerging as an important challenge.
In response to this trend, Coway Co., Ltd. is expanding and diversifying its mattress lineup around BEREX, its sleep and wellness care brand. The range includes hard mattresses for people who sleep on their backs, soft mattresses designed for side sleepers, and smart mattresses that allow users to adjust firmness to suit their preferences.
The BEREX Modi Mattress focuses on support and pressure distribution, with independent springs and foam divided into seven zones corresponding to different parts of the body. The BEREX Signature Fire Shield Mattress is designed to distribute body pressure through its soft cushioning and dual-spring structure.
The BEREX Smart Mattress S8+ and S6+ feature adjustable firmness, using internal sleep cells and a Smart Control System to accommodate differences in mattress preferences between couples.
Coway Co., Ltd. has recently added sleep data analysis capabilities to its mattresses. BEREX Sleep Sync, introduced last September, uses sensors built into the mattress to measure users’ breathing movements, heart rates and other data, and analyze their sleep conditions.
Other bed makers also offer products designed to accommodate a range of sleep habits and consumer preferences.
Ace Bed emphasizes body support and pressure distribution with its Hybrid Z Spring, which uses different operating mechanisms in the upper and lower sections.
Simmons offers mattresses with a range of cushioning, including Beautyrest, which uses independent pocket-spring technology. N32, its vegan mattress brand, also offers a lineup in soft, regular and hard options to suit consumer preferences.
A Coway Co., Ltd. representative said, “Because everyone has a different body type and different sleep habits, finding a mattress that fills the contours of your body without leaving gaps is the first step toward a great night’s sleep.” The representative added, “With differentiated technology and a broad product lineup, we will address customers’ distinct sleep concerns and offer optimal sleep solutions.”
