[Financial News] It has belatedly emerged that U-Know Yunho, a member of TVXQ, engaged in a heated exchange with paying subscribers on a paid fan communication platform after they criticized how infrequently he communicated, sparking controversy online.

On the 17th, screenshots of past exchanges between U-Know Yunho and some fans on the paid fan communication platform Bubble circulated across numerous online communities and social networking services (SNS). The conversations are said to have taken place around last July.
The controversy began with a prolonged gap in communication. After some fans expressed disappointment that U-Know Yunho had not posted messages for a long time, he replied, “I’m sorry I haven’t been able to satisfy you, but I think this is the best I can do. Please don’t provoke me for no reason.”
One fan, pointing out that it was a paid service with a monthly subscription fee, left a protest message saying, “Fans wouldn’t have been angry if you had shown up even once a month,” and, “Fan communication is also part of an idol’s activities, and I was disappointed to see you publicly reveal the ID of a fan who complained and engage in a battle of wills.”
U-Know Yunho then publicly reposted the message and responded firmly: “Those who chose to speak provocatively don’t have to come. I respect that you may feel disappointed, but expressing yourself this way isn’t showing mutual respect,” he said, adding, “Those who have no respect should leave.”
As the exchange has belatedly come back into the spotlight, debate is spreading online over the nature of paid fan communication platforms and artists’ attitudes.
Many netizens said that consumers have a legitimate right to complain about a prolonged absence on a commercial platform that charges a monthly fee, and that it was thoughtless for the artist to respond as if urging them to “cancel their subscriptions.” Some also criticized his response as inappropriate, particularly his decision to make a specific fan’s complaint public and rebuke them in front of everyone.
Meanwhile, fans speaking in support of U-Know Yunho moved to defuse the controversy, saying the matter had already been resolved months ago. According to the fans, he was dealing with a complicated internal schedule at the time, including a change to the venue booking for his first solo concert, and personally apologized to fans immediately after the performance. Others have also argued that afterward he greatly increased how often he communicated, not only on Bubble but also through the official fan community Weverse and live broadcasts.
U-Know Yunho, who debuted with TVXQ in 2003, successfully held his first solo concert in 23 years since his debut this past July and recently wrapped up a solo tour spanning eight regions in Asia.
