[Financial News] The Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education (SMOE) will hold an event on the 19th where teachers with disabilities will present firsthand examples of their educational activities. The event will feature a counselor who, with a guide dog, has helped create a school culture that embraces disability as part of diversity rather than as something extraordinary, as well as an inclusive physical education class where students and teachers with and without disabilities run and grow together.
According to SMOE on the 18th, the presentations will share the challenges and know-how teachers with disabilities have encountered in conducting lessons, managing classes and handling school duties, as well as the educational outcomes they achieved by addressing those challenges. They will also share experiences of leading teacher learning communities and creating an educational environment where they can communicate closely with fellow teachers.
The event will be held from 3 p.m. to 5:10 p.m. on the 19th in the conference room on the third floor of SMOE. It is intended for kindergarten, elementary and secondary school administrators, teachers and staff who are interested in the educational activities of teachers with disabilities.
After the case presentations, Professor Kim Ki-ryong of the Department of Special Education at Joongbu University will give a lecture titled “Building an Educational Community Together with Teachers with Disabilities.” He will discuss the role and support the educational community should provide so that teachers with disabilities can exercise their capabilities as active participants in educational activities.
SMOE aims to broaden positive perceptions of disability by sharing the diverse experiences and success stories of teachers with disabilities, and to foster an inclusive school culture where people with and without disabilities grow together.
Geun-sik Chung, superintendent of the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education, said, “This event sharing examples of the educational activities of teachers with disabilities will contribute to creating an educational environment that understands diversity and differences and moves toward respect and solidarity,” adding, “I will do my utmost to create an inclusive educational environment where all teachers are respected without discrimination and grow together.”
