[Financial News] National soccer team player Lee Kang-in (25, Atletico Madrid) and Park Sang-hyo, who is known to be his girlfriend and is a fifth-generation member of the Doosan family, have set the internet abuzz with an unusual response to abusive comments that crossed the line: they personally “liked” them.
On the 14th, Lee Kang-in’s social media was flooded with abusive comments, including “Kang-in, work on your attitude,” “You should be kicked out too,” and “Show respect to your seniors.”
This came after unverified rumors spread recently, particularly in online communities, alleging that Lee Kang-in and players known as the “’96 line”—including Kim Min-jae, Hwang In-beom and Hwang Hee-chan—led an effort to ostracize captain Son Heung-min and demand that he give up the captain’s armband. Lee was singled out as the ringleader of the conflict, drawing a wave of criticism.
Amid this hostile atmosphere, Lee Kang-in and his girlfriend, Park Sang-hyo, were spotted taking what was described as a “cool” approach.
When an abusive, personal-attack comment appeared on Lee Kang-in’s social media, saying, “I find your chaebol girlfriend the biggest mystery. Why is she dating someone like you?”, Park herself “liked” the comment.
Lee Kang-in also made a silent protest by “liking” an abusive comment that hurled a crude insult at him: “You act like a little kid, you piece of trash.” He appeared to indirectly express his disbelief, responding head-on to the trolls’ irrational attacks.
Park Sang-hyo, who is two years older than Lee Kang-in, is the daughter of Jinwon Park, vice chairman of Doosan Bobcat Korea.
The two are said to have first met through an introduction by Lee Kang-in’s older sister and later become a couple. They have drawn attention for public dates that showed little concern for onlookers, including a date at a tennis venue in Paris, France, last year and watching a Doosan Bears game together at Jamsil Baseball Stadium in Seoul this year.

Meanwhile, as the abusive comments crossed the line, Lee Kang-in’s agency finally took action.
On the 13th, Lee Kang-in’s agency, The Black Label, addressed the recently emerging rumors within the national team, saying, “The series of claims currently being discussed has absolutely nothing to do with Lee Kang-in.” It added, “We are collecting material on posts and comments that amount to spreading false information and defamation, and will strictly pursue the necessary legal procedures depending on the circumstances,” warning that it would take strong legal action.
