[Financial News] Gyeonggi Province plans to hold a provincial government funeral for the firefighter who died in a factory fire in Bucheon.
A provincial official said on the 17th, “It was decided to hold the funeral as a provincial government funeral in accordance with the wishes of the bereaved family.”
The wake is being held at the funeral hall of Soonchunhyang University Bucheon Hospital. A joint memorial altar where members of the public can pay their respects was set up at the Urban Festival Plaza in Sejong Central Park.
The funeral service is scheduled for the 19th, and the joint memorial altar will remain open until the service ends. It has not yet been decided whether a decoration will be awarded to the deceased posthumously or whether they will receive a special promotion in rank. The deceased held the rank of fire sergeant at the time of death.
The National Fire Agency said, “We pay deep tribute to the deceased’s noble dedication and sacrifice and pray for their peaceful repose.”
The firefighter, who had been deployed as part of the first-arriving crew to put out a fire at a Bucheon factory the previous day, was taken to hospital for treatment but ultimately died at around 12:55 a.m. that day.
A fire broke out at around 8:38 a.m. the previous day at a metal injection and printing factory in Nae-dong, Ojeong-gu, Bucheon, and was extinguished 2 hours and 28 minutes later.
The fire killed the deceased and left another firefighter in their 40s seriously injured. Four other firefighters showed symptoms of heat exhaustion, and two people associated with the factory were taken to hospital for smoke inhalation, bringing the total number of casualties to eight.
