【Financial News | Jeju = Reporter Jeong Yong-bok】 Oh Sang-uk (Daejeon Metropolitan City Hall), who won two fencing gold medals at the Asian Games and went on to win gold at the Jeju National Sports Festival, will receive the South Korean delegation’s Most Valuable Player (MVP) award on the 17th. Volunteers at the National Sports Festival and military personnel will also serve as presenters at the ceremony honoring outstanding athletes in international competitions, joining in celebrating the athletes’ achievements.
The Jeju Special Self-Governing Province said on the 17th that the Korea Sport & Olympic Committee will hold the “2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games South Korean Delegation Outstanding Athletes Awards Ceremony” at 5:30 p.m. that day on the stage at the National Sports Festival promotional pavilion in the plaza of Jeju World Cup Stadium in Seogwipo.
Four people are expected to attend the ceremony: Oh Sang-uk, teqball player Lee Jun-seok, men’s 3x3 basketball coach Bae Gil-tae and marathoner Park Min-ho. The Korea Sport & Olympic Committee decided to hold the ceremony in Jeju, the host site, because the award recipients are competing in the 107th National Sports Festival.
On the 16th, the day before the awards ceremony, Oh Sang-uk took the title in the men’s senior individual sabre event at the National Sports Festival, held at the Seogwipo Sports Complex. He beat Ha Han-sol (Seongnam City Hall) 15-1 in the final to win the event for the second consecutive year. It was his seventh career victory in the individual event in the senior division at the National Sports Festival.
Earlier, Oh Sang-uk also swept the men’s individual and team sabre events at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games, held in Japan last month. In the team final against Japan, South Korea trailed 41-44 going into the ninth and final round, but scored four consecutive points to secure a 45-44 comeback victory.
With this victory, South Korea’s men’s sabre team won the Asian Games team title for the fourth consecutive time. Along with his second consecutive individual title, Oh also became a double gold medalist at the Games for the second consecutive edition.

At a post-event press conference on the 4th, the Korea Sport & Olympic Committee named Oh Sang-uk the South Korean delegation’s MVP following a vote by local reporters covering the event. The prize money is 30 million won.
Lee Jun-seok, recipient of the Fighting Spirit Award, will receive 10 million won in prize money. At these Asian Games, he became the first-ever gold medalist in men’s singles teqball, which was included as an official event for the first time.
Teqball is a sport in which players use soccer skills to send a ball back and forth over a curved table. It drew attention because South Korean athletes won gold not only in traditionally strong events but also in newly introduced ones.
The Coaching Leadership Award will go to coach Bae Gil-tae, who led South Korea’s men’s 3x3 basketball team to its first Asian Games gold medal. Coach Bae will also receive 10 million won in prize money.
Marathoner Park Min-ho was selected for a special award in recognition of the fighting spirit he showed despite his injury. The Korea Sport & Olympic Committee announced five special-award recipients: Park, badminton head coach Park Joo-bong, skateboarder Kang Jun-i, sailor Ha Ji-min and archer Kim Jong-ho.
The ceremony is also drawing attention to the on-site staff supporting the National Sports Festival, as well as medalists from international competitions.

Volunteers at the National Sports Festival and military personnel will serve as presenters, sharing the stage with the athletes. After the awards, Oh Sang-uk will also take part in a thank-you event, presenting commemorative gifts to volunteers. An interview about his reaction to receiving the MVP award and commemorative photos are also planned.
The ceremony will connect the achievements at the Asian Games, which closed on the 4th, with the setting of a domestic multisport event.
The South Korean delegation won a total of 150 medals at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games: 39 gold, 43 silver and 68 bronze. Alongside strong results in traditionally successful events such as fencing, South Korea also produced new gold medalists in sports including teqball and skateboarding.
The 107th National Sports Festival, which opened on the 16th, will continue across Jeju through the 22nd. Jeju is hosting the event for the first time in 12 years, since 2014.
Hosted by the Korea Sport & Olympic Committee and jointly organized by the Jeju Special Self-Governing Province, the Jeju Special Self-Governing Provincial Office of Education and the Jeju Special Self-Governing Provincial Sports Council, the event will bring together 30,599 athletes and officials from 17 provincial and metropolitan governments across the country and overseas Korean sports organizations to compete in 50 sports.
