[Financial News] Volleyball sisters Lee Jae-young and Lee Da-young, who were effectively forced out of the domestic scene amid controversy over allegations that they had perpetrated school violence, have recently been seen celebrating their birthdays side by side in the Azerbaijani league.
Turan VC, which competes in the Azerbaijan Women’s Volleyball Super League, posted a commemorative image and message celebrating the birthdays of Lee Jae-young and Lee Da-young on the 15th via its official social media account.
In the photo released by the club, the two players wear their team’s blue uniforms and pose on the volleyball court, smiling brightly at the camera and making finger hearts. Their names in English and jersey numbers—Lee Jae-young (No. 17) and Lee Da-young (No. 19)—are clearly displayed at the top of the image, with birthday greetings at the bottom.
In 2021, the two faced fierce criticism after their past involvement in school bullying came to light. They were permanently stripped of their eligibility for the national team by the Korea Volleyball Association and released by their clubs, leaving the domestic court. They then turned their attention overseas, joining PAOK Thessaloniki in the Greek league together.
The two players’ paths diverged somewhat after they moved to Greece. Setter Lee Da-young continued her playing career, moving through various overseas leagues, including Romania (CS Rapid București), France (Volero Le Cannet) and the United States (San Diego Mojo). Outside hitter Lee Jae-young, meanwhile, was unable to play for an extended period as her left knee injury worsened and had to undergo lengthy rehabilitation.
But ahead of this season, both players joined Turan VC, finally reuniting on the same team. Turan VC recently posted a video on its official social media account showing the two sending greetings to fans ahead of the new season, and made a major announcement of their arrival.
