[Financial News] Hanwha Solutions has completed technical verification of materials for 500-kilovolt (kV)-class extra-high-voltage alternating-current (HVAC) transmission cables in collaboration with two Chinese manufacturers of extra-high-voltage cables. The company has expanded the scope of verification from 400 kV to 500 kV and plans to pursue additional international certifications to increase its supply of materials for extra-high-voltage cables.
Hanwha Solutions said on the 16th that its Wire & Cable (W&C) division had completed technical verification of a package of cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) insulation and semiconductive materials for 500 kV-class HVAC cables, working separately with Chinese extra-high-voltage cable manufacturers Qingdao Hanhe and TBEA.
The tests were conducted by TICW, a certification body affiliated with the Shanghai Cable Research Institute of China (SECRI). Key verification criteria included insulation performance and long-term reliability under extra-high-voltage transmission conditions.
Through these tests, Hanwha Solutions completed technical verification of materials for 500 kV-class cables, following its earlier verification for 400 kV-class cables. It is now also pursuing certification from the international certification body KEMA. The company plans to use this to expand its supply of materials for extra-high-voltage cables used in power plants, transmission networks and large-scale renewable energy projects.
Hanwha Solutions expects global sales of XLPE for super-extra-high-voltage (SEHV) cables to increase this year to nearly twice last year's level. In China, it forecasts that sales of extra-high-voltage materials, including 325 kV-class SEHV XLPE, will rise to about three times last year's level.
Carlo Scalata, head of Hanwha Solutions' W&C division, said, "We will continue to expand our business opportunities in the extra-high-voltage cable market."
