[Financial News] The National Police Agency is holding a public participation campaign to raise social awareness of crime victims and highlight the importance of support for their recovery.
The National Police Agency said it will hold the “2026 Nationwide Campaign to Raise Awareness of Crime Victims” with the Korea Organization for Victim Assistance (KOVA) from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on the 17th, at Malli-dong Plaza and around Seoullo 7017 in Jung-gu, Seoul.
The campaign’s central message is, “Your concern gives victims strength to recover.” It aims to deepen understanding of the physical, psychological and financial difficulties crime victims face after an incident, and to build broader social empathy in support of their return to everyday life.
Interactive programs and a counseling area for the public will be set up at Malli-dong Plaza. The campaign will introduce the difficulties crime victims face immediately after an incident and the support programs available to them, and hold a true-or-false quiz to help participants better understand victims. It will also display victims’ stories and messages, and offer a program exploring words that can—and cannot—help victims.
There will also be a program in which members of the public write messages supporting victims’ recovery and post them on a bulletin board. A photo area and a social media participation event are also planned.
A counseling area staffed by volunteers in psychology, law and medicine will also be available. Information will be provided on victims’ rights and support programs during the investigation stage, as well as safety measures they can access.
On the Seoullo 7017 pedestrian walkway, police officers, volunteers and professional counselors will meet members of the public in a mobile campaign to raise awareness of the need to protect and support victims.
The National Police Agency and KOVA plan to continue working together to support crime victims following the event. In particular, they will work to provide ongoing support so victims can return to everyday life even after a case has been closed at the police investigation stage.
Acting National Police Commissioner Kim Jong-cheol stressed, “For crime victims to recover their everyday lives after an incident, institutional support must go hand in hand with public concern and support,” adding, “We hope this nationwide campaign will raise awareness of the difficulties crime victims face and give many people an opportunity to empathize with the need to support their recovery.”
KOVA Chair Park Hyo-sun urged, “Although victims need ongoing attention and support to return to everyday life, the police and the state are severely short of personnel and financial resources,” adding, “A system of public-private coordination and cooperation is important to ensure victims’ everyday lives continue to receive sustained attention.”
