[Financial News] A still showing Kim Ji-won from SBS's Friday-Saturday drama 'Doctor X' being brought into the emergency room covered in blood has been released, raising questions.
'Doctor X' is a medical noir about Gye Su-jeong (played by Kim Ji-won), a brilliant surgeon who knows neither failure nor compromise and takes on corruption in the medical field with her outstanding surgical skills.
Episodes 1 and 2 showed Gye Su-jeong, a 'mercenary doctor' dispatched to Guseo University Hospital, shaking up the hospital's power structure and hierarchy with her overwhelming surgical skills. After just two episodes, the drama recorded a peak rating of 17.4%, ranking No. 1 among all miniseries airing on Saturday.
The global response has also been strong. The drama ranked No. 1 in Netflix's global non-English TV show category (Tudum, October 5–11) and took the top spot in TV and OTT drama buzz for the second week of October, as announced by Good Data Corporation's FUNdex, as well as in combined TV and OTT cast buzz.
Meanwhile, ahead of the broadcast of episode 3 today (the 16th), SBS released photos capturing the tense emergency room scene. In the photos, Gye Su-jeong lies on an emergency room bed covered in blood. Kim Seong-jin (played by Heo Jun-seok) from the emergency medicine department urgently administers first aid, while intern Park Tae-gyeong (played by Kim Woo-seok) looks shocked. Hospital director Bu Seung-gwon (played by Son Hyun-joo) also comes to see Gye Su-jeong, heightening curiosity about what happened to her.
Actor Jang Seung-jo's special appearance is also drawing attention. He plays Na Dae-il, a newly appointed professor of surgery at Guseo University Hospital. A former long-serving military doctor, Na has extensive clinical experience. He is set to emerge as a new rival to Gye Su-jeong.
In the released photos, Na Dae-il inspires trust with his neat appearance and relaxed smile, but the steely look that flashes across his eyes hints at another side to him. A subtle tension hangs even as he shakes hands with Jang Hui-suk (played by Lee Jeong-eun), piquing curiosity about what lies ahead.
A new OST to add to the drama's popularity has also been released. The third OST, 'Bloom,' featuring singer-songwriter Ahn Shin-ae, came out at noon on the 16th on various music platforms. The song conveys a determination to keep moving forward without stopping, even amid a daunting reality, and showcases Ahn's signature powerful vocals.
Last April, Ahn Shin-ae released the remake album 'Best Before,' which features four songs, including Kim Gun-mo's 'Love of My Own,' Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter's 'I Guess Everyone Changes,' Kim Hyun-chul's 'What's the Matter,' and Won Mi-yeon's 'Farewell Trip.'
Meanwhile, episode 3 of 'Doctor X' airs at 9:50 p.m. on the 16th.
