[Financial News] Samsung Electronics Chairman Lee Jae-yong has sent gifts of support and letters of appreciation to employees of Samsung affiliates posted to the Middle East, where anxieties are mounting amid wars and other factors, and to their families. The gesture is intended to recognize the hard work of employees who are keeping their businesses going despite difficult conditions on the ground, and to express gratitude to their families living in Korea and abroad.
According to Samsung on the 16th, Lee sent gifts of support to 730 employees of Samsung affiliates posted to nine Middle Eastern countries—Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Iran, Iraq, Israel, Qatar, Jordan, Kuwait and Bahrain—and their families.
Employees posted to the region received gift certificates worth 3 million to 5 million won. Their families living in Korea received Onnuri Gift Certificates worth 2 million to 3 million won, which can be used at traditional markets and local small-business stores.
Along with the gifts, Lee also sent the employees letters expressing his personal gratitude.
In the letter, Lee wrote, "Your passion and dedication in quietly fulfilling your duties despite difficult circumstances are setting a great example for all of us," adding, "I deeply appreciate the responsibility and effort you show in your respective roles."
He also added, "The company always considers your safety and health its top priority."
This is the second time this year that Lee has encouraged employees posted to the Middle East and their families. In March, at Lee's suggestion, Samsung also sent gifts of support and letters to around 500 employees working in three Middle Eastern countries, including the UAE, Qatar and Saudi Arabia, and their families.
Employees of Samsung affiliates are pursuing business cooperation in the Middle East, including the construction of energy facilities such as AI data centers and nuclear power plants, as well as cooperation in IT fields such as mobile devices and home appliances. Even as geopolitical uncertainty in the region persists, they are carrying out local projects and working to secure future growth engines.
