[Financial News] The story has emerged belatedly of firefighters who, while clearing the burned debris from a fire-damaged home, found about 2 million won in cash stored beneath the flooring and returned it to the homeowner.
According to reports by News1 and Newsis on the 16th, firefighters from the Bonghwa Fire Station in North Gyeongsang Province found 1.95 million won in cash while clearing the scene of a fire at a home in Dochon-ri, Bonghwa-eup, on the 8th, and handed it to the homeowner.
At the time, while extinguishing the fire and clearing debris, the firefighters were told by the homeowner that cash had been stored beneath the flooring.
Crew members, including Team Leader Kim Hyeong-dae of the 119 Rescue and Emergency Medical Services Center, who responded to the scene, feared that heavy machinery could damage or scatter the banknotes, so they began searching by hand, clearing away the debris one piece at a time.
As a result, the crew found and collected 39 partially singed 50,000-won notes, totaling 1.95 million won, and then handed them to the homeowner.
The homeowner expressed gratitude, saying, “I thought I had lost everything in the fire, but I’m grateful that the firefighters kept searching until the end and found it for me.”
A Bonghwa Fire Station official said, “We hope this has brought at least a little comfort to the residents who suffered heavy losses in the fire,” adding, “We will continue to do our utmost not only to rescue people and fight fires but also to protect the property of residents affected by the fire.”
