[Financial News] U.S. President Donald Trump said he has no plans to use nuclear weapons against Iran, responding to reports that the U.S. Department of Defense (Department of War) is drawing up new strike plans targeting Iran’s nuclear facilities and energy infrastructure, including a weapon known as the “Mother of All Bombs” (MOAB).
In an interview with Newsmax on the 15th (local time), Trump addressed the MOAB, known as the GBU-43/B Massive Ordnance Air Blast, drawing a distinction by saying, “The Mother of All Bombs is not a nuclear weapon.”
Trump went on to say, “It is just a very large bomb. It has power comparable to that of a very small nuclear bomb, but it is just one huge conventional bomb, not a nuclear weapon.” He stressed, “We will not use nuclear weapons against Iran because we do not need to.”
According to reports citing multiple U.S. government officials, the Department of Defense is considering various options for carrying out strikes on key Iranian facilities around the U.S. midterm elections scheduled for November 3.
