Why Nam Bo-ra's confession, “Hit a 300% return on Nvidia and sold,” drew groans

[Financial News] Nam Bo-ra, an actress known as one of the entertainment industry's most frugal stars and as the second of 13 siblings, has revealed details of her past stock investments and her specific returns.
Nam Bo-ra appeared on the web variety show 'Donjjul Hearing EP. 2' on Kiwoom Securities' YouTube channel 'Channel Keukeu,' released on the 15th, and shared her experience investing in stocks during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Nam Bo-ra surprised viewers by revealing that, when she was a novice stock investor, she had invested in Nvidia Corporation (Nvidia), one of the world's leading blue-chip stocks in semiconductors and AI. The other cast members stressed that Nvidia had been at a 'low point' at the time and asked about her returns. Nam Bo-ra said, “After reaching a 300% return, I sold all of it.”
But there was a twist behind Nam Bo-ra's successful investment. In response to the cast members' surprise at her returns, she added, “The catch was, I had just one share,” drawing laughter. She also said she bought shares in SK hynix, a major domestic semiconductor stock, for 195,000 won each and sold them for 215,000 won each.
In terms of returns alone, it was a roughly 10% profit, but given how much the stock price rose afterward, it was a disappointing choice. The cast members could not help but groan, and Nam Bo-ra added, “I was a fool who thought I was smart,” with a rueful smile.
Meanwhile, Nam Bo-ra, in the second year of her marriage, was asked by host Park Young-jin whether she had any financial investments she kept from her husband. She replied suggestively, “I don't do it secretly, but there are things I haven't mentioned.” Nam Bo-ra, who is interested in various assets in addition to stocks, also shared that she had recently bought gold as part of her investment in physical assets and was keeping it in her personal safe.
Meanwhile, Nam Bo-ra, the second of 13 siblings, became known to the public after appearing with her family on the Korean Broadcasting System (KBS) show 'Human Theater.' She made her debut in 2006 in the KBS sitcom 'Look Back with a Smile.' She married a non-celebrity man her age last May and, after giving birth to a son this past June, has been balancing childcare with her broadcasting work.
