[Financial News] Police have launched an investigation into a case involving complaints against President Lee Jae-myung and military leadership over an explosion in the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) on the western front.
Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency Security Investigation Unit 2 has been questioning Kim Sun-hwan, secretary-general of the People's Livelihood Countermeasures Committee (Seominwi), as the complainant at Seoul's Yeongdeungpo Police Station since around 10 a.m. on the 16th.
Earlier, on the 26th of last month, Seominwi filed a complaint with the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency against nine people, including President Lee, National Security Office Director Wi Seong-rak, former Defense Minister Ahn Gyu-baek and Defense Minister Kang Shin-cheol, on suspicion of abuse of authority, dereliction of duty and the general offense of aiding the enemy, among other charges.
Seominwi says that despite allegations that North Korean troops crossed the Military Demarcation Line (MDL) and planted mines, the government and military authorities failed to respond in time, leading to an incident in which service members were injured.

He went on to say that President Lee and the military leadership should be held responsible for the general offense of aiding the enemy, among other charges, and said, "They should all resign and face the judgment of the law." He added, "The president is commander-in-chief of the military and has a duty to defend the country, but he has abandoned that responsibility. I will request a compulsory investigation of the president while being questioned today. The police should search and seize materials not only at the National Police Agency but also at the Ministry of National Defense to find out how things came to this point."
At around 10:50 a.m. on the 21st of last month, a mine exploded twice during an operation to clear a search route in the DMZ, south of the MDL, within the area overseen by the Army's 25th Division in Paju, Gyeonggi Province. Two service members, including the search battalion commander, were seriously injured, and one was slightly injured.
The Joint Chiefs of Staff announced that on the 5th it had reached a final determination, based on the results of a joint on-site investigation by the United Nations Command and analysis by the National Forensic Service, among other findings, that service members had been injured by resin anti-personnel mines laid by North Korean troops south of the MDL.
