[Financial News] Kim Ji-yong, the inaugural chief of the Serious Crime Investigation Agency (SCIA), reported for his first day at work on the 16th and began his official duties. With the leadership vacancy resolved two weeks after the agency launched on the 2nd, the organization’s operations and the overhaul of its investigative command structure are expected to gain momentum.
The agency said in a notice to the media that “Chief Kim reported for work as usual and is expected to carry out his duties normally, including receiving briefings.”
Chief Kim is expected to first receive briefings on major issues from each department and review the organization’s overall operations. In particular, he is expected to review the list of candidate cases for transfer received from the Prosecution Agency and begin work on case assignments and revamping the investigative command structure.
Filling vacancies in key leadership positions and expanding investigative infrastructure, including digital forensics equipment, are also pressing tasks. He is expected to focus on establishing a stable operational foundation for the organization in its early days.
The National Assembly’s Public Administration and Security Committee held a confirmation hearing for Chief Kim on the 14th and adopted the confirmation hearing report on the 15th. President Lee Jae-myung approved Chief Kim’s appointment that same day.
The schedule for Chief Kim’s appointment ceremony and official inauguration has not yet been set.
