[Financial News] Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix are rebounding in the 2% range early in trading.
As of 9:51 a.m. on the 16th, SK Hynix was trading at 1,291,000 won, up 29,000 won (2.30%) from the previous trading day.
The rebound is thought to reflect bargain buying after the stock plunged more than 11% the previous day. However, selling pressure has continued, with the stock swinging between gains and losses.
At the same time, Samsung Electronics was trading at 215,250 won, up 5,250 won (2.50%) from the previous session.
The previous day, Samsung Electronics closed down 9.48% and SK Hynix 11.06%. These were their steepest declines since July 28, when they fell 13.39% and 16.02%, respectively.
Investor sentiment deteriorated as concerns mounted over the growth of China's ChangXin Memory Technologies (CXMT) and the profitability of investment in artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure, compounded by interest-rate concerns and other factors.
Han Ji-young, a researcher at Kiwoom Securities, noted, “With doubts mounting, particularly in semiconductors, about the sustainability of earnings from 2027–28 onward, it is difficult to assume that historical lows in price-to-earnings ratios (PER) will continue to serve as a valid floor today. Determining whether skepticism about earnings can be dispelled will require going through the big tech third-quarter earnings season scheduled for October.”
