[Financial News] As generative artificial intelligence (AI) programs become widely available to the public around the world, Busan will host a webtoon-making contest where participants can put what they learn into practice, alongside training to support groups with limited access to information.
According to Busan Metropolitan City, PKNU and GruShip Korea, the “Webtoon Contest Using Generative AI for Multicultural Families Living in Busan” will be held on the afternoon of the 17th at the Convergence Hall in the Information Convergence Building on PKNU's Daeyeon Campus.
The program was conceived in Busan as the first of its kind nationwide, with the aim of providing local multicultural families—who are considered relatively disadvantaged in access to information—with an opportunity to learn about and directly use generative AI programs.
City statistics show that the number of multicultural families in Busan has risen by 30% over the past 10 years. Multicultural families currently account for about 2.5% of Busan's population.
However, reports indicate that many multicultural families in the Busan area, whose members are becoming an important part of the community, continue to see cases of students dropping out of school because of significant academic disparities and economic vulnerability. Through this program, the city and its operator, GruShip Korea, plan to strengthen cohesion and communication within multicultural families and help them try generative AI themselves and use it in their daily lives.
About 50 members of multicultural families living in Busan, from 10 households, will take part in the program. Eligible households must have a child who is in the fourth grade of elementary school or older.
GruShip Korea CEO Kang Ji-eun will lead a roughly 50-minute session titled “AI Literacy and Ethics,” which will cover the basics of AI. This will be followed by the “Webtoon Contest Using Generative AI for Multicultural Families Living in Busan,” which will run for about 90 minutes.
A GruShip Korea representative said, “We hope that through AI training tailored to the characteristics of multicultural families, participating families will learn how to use AI properly and gain practical help in their daily lives.”
