[Financial News] Students set to enter their third year at general high schools and autonomous private high schools in Seoul will be able to receive a year of tailored vocational training at no cost starting next year.
The Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education said on the 16th that it is inviting applications for its “2027 General High School Vocational Education Consignment Program” from students set to enter their third year at general high schools.
The program is for students who want to learn practical skills early, instead of going to university, and pursue employment or further study in a related field. Students selected for the program will keep their enrollment at their current schools while taking hands-on classes at a specialized educational institution for one year. Upon completing the program, they will receive a diploma from their home high school and recognition for completing vocational education.
SMOE will cover all education costs, significantly reducing the financial burden on parents. The 2027 curriculum has been redesigned around promising fields to keep pace with rapidly changing industry trends, with a focus on helping students earn national technical qualification certificates and improve their competitiveness in securing jobs tailored to workplace needs.
The program is run by six industrial and cultural arts information schools in Seoul (Geumcheon, Seoul, Seocho, Ahyeon, Eunpyeong and Jongno). More information about the courses and facilities is available on each school’s website or through the QR code in the information leaflet.
Applications will be accepted from the 26th through 4 p.m. on the 28th. Students wishing to apply should first consult their homeroom teacher or career and college counseling teacher at their school, then submit an application through “Gyodetong,” the Educational Administration Data Integrated Management System. Interviews will be held on November 2, and the final successful applicants will be announced on November 6.
Seoul Superintendent of Education Geun-sik Chung said, “This consignment program will be a good opportunity for students who want to prepare for the future by learning specialized skills through hands-on training rather than studying at a desk,” adding, “We will continue to support vocational education so that students can discover their own potential and pursue their dreams.”
