[Financial News] The Canadian couple who won the top prize in a lottery eight years ago and received 2.5 million Canadian dollars (about ₩2.3 billion) have stunned many after news emerged that they have won the lottery again.
According to the U.S. magazine People on the 12th (local time), the remarkably lucky couple are Angelina Rado and her husband, Edward Rado, who live in St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. The Rados reportedly recently bought a Set for Life instant-win ticket costing 4 Canadian dollars (about ₩3,800) and won its top prize.
Winners of Set for Life can choose between receiving 1,000 Canadian dollars (about ₩950,000) a week for 25 years and taking a lump sum of 675,000 Canadian dollars (about ₩639 million). The couple chose the lump sum instead of receiving the money over 25 years.
What is remarkable is that this is not the first time the couple have won a large lottery prize. In 2018, they won 2.5 million Canadian dollars (about ₩2.366 billion) on the instant-win ticket Multi-Millionaire Scratch and Win. The prize was reportedly the largest ever awarded by that lottery at the time.
When he first heard the news of their second lottery win, Edward found it hard to believe their extraordinary luck. Recalling the moment, he said, “When my wife told me she’d won, I wondered if she was pulling my leg. I really couldn’t believe it.”
Edward said there was nothing special about how they had won twice. He also said he would take his time deciding what to do with the winnings rather than rush into a decision. The couple reportedly left South Sudan, lived in a refugee camp in Uganda, and then moved to Canada about 11 years ago.
