[Financial News] A 16-month-old infant who fell into the private pool at a pool-villa pension in Seogwipo, Jeju, and was left in critical condition has died while receiving intensive care at a hospital.
On the 15th, Jeju Seogwipo Police Station and fire authorities said that A, a 16-month-old girl who had been receiving treatment in the intensive care unit of a general hospital in Jeju City, was pronounced dead that day.
Earlier, at around 6:02 p.m. on the 13th, A fell into the private pool inside a room at a pension in Seogwipo.
A was immediately pulled from the water by her guardian, who noticed something was wrong, but she was already in cardiac arrest, with no breathing or pulse. The 119 Emergency Medical Service, dispatched urgently after receiving the report, performed emergency treatment, including cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), at the scene. Judging her condition to be critical, it mobilized a Coast Guard helicopter to rush her to a general hospital in Jeju City.
A was taken to the hospital and received intensive treatment from medical staff, but never regained consciousness and died two days after the accident.
Police are investigating the scene to determine whether the guardian failed to supervise A properly at the time of the accident and whether required safety facilities at the pension, such as safety fences, were installed and maintained in accordance with regulations. A police official said, "We are closely looking into the exact circumstances of the accident and whether there was negligence, questioning the guardian and pension staff, among others."
