[Financial News] Soongsil University said on the 15th that Hong Ji-woo, a student in its School of Software, had been recognized as an outstanding engineering student with technical expertise and a sense of social responsibility and had won the 24th Gold Collar Engineering Student Award.
Organized by the Korean Society for Engineering Education, the Gold Collar Engineering Student Award was established to identify and encourage interdisciplinary engineering talent with a broad range of strengths, including technical expertise, collaboration and communication skills, social responsibility, and international awareness.
Hong Ji-woo developed an undergraduate major project, won the university president’s award in the IT College Software Contest, and then represented the university at the SW Talent Festival. In particular, Hong won gold at the Global Appropriate Technology Creative Design Competition, demonstrating the potential to realize social value through engineering technology.
Hong also completed SSUVEE, an engineering design volunteer program, and put social responsibility into practice by working as a staff member. Hong actively took part in on- and off-campus team projects bringing together diverse disciplines, as well as programs to strengthen global competencies, and developed collaboration and communication skills.
Hong Ji-woo said, “I was able to receive the Gold Collar Engineering Student Award thanks to a good opportunity,” adding, “I will keep in mind the significance of an award that emphasizes collaboration with other fields and expertise, and continue to grow as an engineer worthy of the name.”
Soongsil University’s Center for Engineering Education Innovation said, “We plan to continue providing a range of educational programs and opportunities for participation so that students can grow into engineers with both academic achievements and a sense of social responsibility.”
