[Financial News] 18 faculty members and researchers affiliated with Kwangwoon University were named among the “World's Top 2% of Scientists” in a global academic assessment, demonstrating the university's global research competitiveness.
Kwangwoon University said on the 15th that 18 of its researchers were included in the “2026 World's Top 2% Scientists” list announced by a research team at Stanford University in the United States and Elsevier, a world-leading academic information company.
The “World's Top 2% of Scientists” is a prestigious metric based on Scopus, a global academic publications database. It evaluates how often researchers' papers are cited by others after standardizing citation counts. The results are released in two categories: “Lifetime Achievement,” which assesses researchers' work over their entire careers, and “Single-Year,” which evaluates their performance over the past year.
In this announcement, 10 Kwangwoon University researchers were selected in the Lifetime Achievement category and 14 in the Single-Year category. Notably, six people—including Kim Tae-gyun of the Department of Mathematics; Park Jae-young and Lee Sang-sin of the Department of Electronic Engineering; Jang Min of the Department of Environmental Engineering; emeritus professor Choi Eun-ha of the Department of Electronic Bio-Physics; and visiting professor Eom Hwan-seop of PBRC—were recognized for both the sustained nature and excellence of their research and named in both categories.
Achievements were recorded across a wide range of fields, from foundational disciplines to advanced technology and management, including electronic engineering, chemical engineering, environmental engineering, mathematics, computer and information engineering, and business administration.
Kwangwoon University President Yoon Do-young said, “This achievement demonstrates the world-class capabilities our researchers have built across diverse academic fields, including electronic engineering, environmental engineering, artificial intelligence (AI), and interdisciplinary research.” He added, “We will continue to spare no effort in supporting researchers so they can focus on innovative research.”
