[Financial News] The University of Seoul Kendo Club won the men's team event at a Seoul-area university kendo tournament in the first half of this year and again at the second-half tournament, securing back-to-back titles.
The University of Seoul said on the 15th that its Kendo Club, a central campus club, won the men's team event at the 53rd Autumn Seoul Metropolitan City University Kendo Federation Championship, held at the Seoul National University of Science and Technology gymnasium on the 5th. After winning the spring tournament earlier this year, the University of Seoul retained its crown at the fall tournament, further cementing its standing as Seoul's strongest university kendo team.
A total of 76 teams representing universities across Seoul—38 men's teams and 38 women's teams—competed in the tournament, hosted by the Seoul Metropolitan City University Kendo Federation and sponsored by the Seoul Metropolitan City Kendo Association. The University of Seoul entered two men's team-event teams, one women's team-event team, and participants in the individual events.
The University of Seoul men's team A, which won the title, comprised students Kwon Jin-hyeok (School of Electrical and Computer Engineering, class of 2023), Lee Tae-hwan (School of Electrical and Computer Engineering, class of 2024), Jo Hyeong-jun (Department of Civil Engineering, class of 2024), Kang Mun-min (Department of Civil Engineering, class of 2026), and Im Hwa-rang (School of Environmental Engineering, class of 2026). Cheered on by their teammates, they battled through a fiercely contested event and ultimately lifted the championship trophy.
Kwon Jin-hyeok, captain of the University of Seoul Kendo Club, said, “Buoyed by our teammates' support, we trusted one another and competed,” adding, “Thanks to not giving up until the very end despite the fierce competition, we were able to achieve the valuable result of back-to-back wins.”
Meanwhile, the Seoul Metropolitan City University Kendo Federation Championship is a leading university kendo tournament where amateur kendo athletes from universities in the Seoul area compete.
