According to Hope Bridge Korea Disaster Relief Association on the 15th, 52 members of Yangju City's disaster prevention corps took part in the “2026 Disaster Relief Specialist Training Program.” Hope Bridge held a total of seven hours of training combining theory and practical exercises to strengthen the members' on-site response capabilities in preparation for disasters in the area.
A local volunteer disaster prevention corps is an organization in which residents and others participate to supplement government efforts from disaster prevention through response and recovery. Its responsibilities include inspecting disaster-vulnerable facilities, helping residents evacuate, restoring affected areas and managing shelters.
The training covered the disaster relief system and relevant laws and regulations, and used visual materials featuring recent disaster cases to review changes in the disaster environment. Participants then practiced on-site relief activities, including setting up shelters used in temporary housing facilities.
Exercises also reflected conflict situations and supply-distribution issues that may arise in actual relief operations. In the first-aid session, participants learned bandaging techniques for different injury scenarios. The program also included psychological support for disaster victims and a self-care program to ease the psychological burden on relief workers.
Shin Hoon, secretary-general of Hope Bridge, said, “At disaster sites, on-the-ground response capabilities—the ability to quickly assess a situation and directly carry out necessary measures—are important,” adding, “I hope this training will give members of Yangju City's disaster prevention corps an opportunity to take a leading role at local disaster sites as key response personnel and build capabilities tailored to on-site needs.”
