[Financial News]  Soongsil University has renovated basement level 1 and the first floor of its Central Library, expanding spaces for individual study, discussion and research. Basement level 1 is equipped with individual heating and cooling systems and is slated to be available for use 24 hours a day.
Soongsil University said on the 15th that it had completed renovations to its Central Library to mark the 129th anniversary of its founding and held an opening ceremony on the 8th. The project aimed to improve the learning and research environment for students. Design work began in March this year, and the renovation was completed this month. It was funded by the university and a donation from Sim Yeong-bok, former president of the General Alumni Association.
The biggest change is on basement level 1. The existing partitions were removed and brighter lighting installed. The floor now has 164 seats in a “Study Zone” for individual study, 71 seats in a “Collab Zone” for discussion and team study, and 39 seats in a “Research Zone” for researchers approved by the Research Review Committee. A lounge area with 47 seats was also added.
On the first floor, the lending desk was moved to make more room for the lounge. Wood-look lighting fixtures were installed on the lobby ceiling. The nine existing seminar rooms and “Soongsil Square,” a study and rest area sheltered from winter winds, will also continue to operate. “Yeongran Lounge,” established with donations from alumnus Sim Yeong-bok and Mrs. Kim Ran-hui, was also added.
The opening ceremony was attended by President Lee Yun-jae, Hong Deok-cheon, acting president of the General Alumni Association, former association president Sim Yeong-bok, and representatives of the faculty, staff and students. Attendees toured the renovated spaces and the library’s main facilities.
A library official said, “Through this renovation, we will work to become a library where students want to spend time and one that supports the improvement of students’ learning abilities.”
