Daegu City urges simultaneous vaccination against Influenza and COVID-19

Daegu City is administering and promoting Influenza and COVID-19 vaccinations in phases to prevent severe illness and death among older adults from winter respiratory infections, in response to an earlier-than-usual Influenza outbreak and an increase in COVID-19 hospitalizations.
In particular, on the first day of vaccinations for people aged 65–69, the 15th, Mayor Choo Kyung-ho visited Daegu Medical Center and received Influenza and COVID-19 vaccines at the same time to encourage older adults to get vaccinated and highlight the convenience of simultaneous vaccination.
Mayor Choo urged, “As Influenza is circulating earlier than usual this year, I urge those aged 65 and older to receive their Influenza and COVID-19 vaccinations at the appropriate time according to the schedule,” and emphasized, “Those eligible for vaccination should get both shots during a single visit to a medical institution and also follow preventive measures such as washing their hands and ventilating indoor spaces to have a healthy winter.”
The city began offering Influenza vaccinations to people aged 75 and older on the 6th, and has been administering Influenza and COVID-19 vaccinations at the same time to people aged 70 and older since the 12th.
Professor Kim Shin-woo of the Department of Allergy and Infectious Diseases at Kyungpook National University Hospital emphasized the importance of proactive vaccination among older adults, saying that this year’s Influenza advisory was issued earlier than usual and that about 60% of hospitalized Influenza patients are aged 65 or older. He also recommended simultaneous vaccination with both vaccines in preparation for Influenza and COVID-19 circulating at the same time this winter.
