[Financial News] Taihan Cable & Solution briefed lawmakers from the National Assembly’s Foreign Affairs and Unification Committee on the progress of its ultra-high-voltage power grid construction project in London, UK. The lawmakers visited the site, reviewed key stages of the work and saw an example of a Korean company carrying out an overseas infrastructure project.
Taihan Cable & Solution said on the 15th that lawmakers from the National Assembly’s FAUC visited the site of the LPT2 (London Power Tunnels 2) project in London on the 12th (local time).
The visit took place during the FAUC’s schedule in the UK to review the overseas expansion achievements of Korean companies and examples of economic cooperation between Korea and the UK. Attendees included Democratic Party of Korea (DPK) lawmakers Hong Ki-won, Jung Cheong-rae, Kim Young-ho and Lee Jae-gang; People Power Party lawmakers Kwon Young-se and Ahn Cheol-soo; and Rebuilding Korea Party (RKP) lawmaker Kim Jun-hyung. South Korean Ambassador to the UK Kim Heung-jong and South Korean Ambassador to Ireland Kang Ju-yeon also joined them.
LPT2 is an infrastructure project being pursued by British grid operator National Grid plc to meet rising electricity demand in London. The project involves building tunnels beneath the city and installing extra-high-voltage power cables to establish a basis for a stable electricity supply.
Taihan Cable & Solution handles the full scope of the work, from supplying materials such as 400 kV extra-high-voltage cables and accessories to designing and engineering the cable system. The project combines the supply of cable products with the design and technical work needed to build the power grid.
The UK is a key overseas market for Taihan Cable & Solution, as investment in infrastructure continues amid efforts to replace aging power grids and meet rising electricity demand. In the first half of this year, the company won four new projects in the UK worth about 100 billion won in total.
A Taihan Cable & Solution official said, “This visit was an opportunity to showcase Taihan Cable & Solution’s capabilities in carrying out projects as it takes part in building critical power infrastructure in the UK, and to share the role and achievements of Korean companies in overseas markets.” The official added, “Going forward, we will continue to strengthen our competitiveness in the global power infrastructure market and expand opportunities to win projects, drawing on the experience we have built up in the local market and the trust of our customers.”
