【New Delhi, India—Correspondent Pragya Awasati】Lotte India's Choco Pie products have been confirmed to meet the relevant standards in a retest by India's National Food Research Institute amid a recent food safety controversy.
According to local media and other sources on the 15th, the company said that a retest of a sample from a specific manufacturing lot that had been questioned in an earlier inspection found the product met the applicable food safety and quality standards.
Lotte India said that the Ghaziabad National Food Research Institute, recognized by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), tested Choco Pie products manufactured on April 10. The sample came from the same manufacturing lot that was reportedly found not to meet standards in the earlier inspection.
The inspection was conducted at the request of the Durg Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in the Indian state of Chhattisgarh.
Lotte India also emphasized that not all Choco Pie products had been banned from sale or determined to be unsafe. It said the test results concerned only the specific manufacturing lot for which an independent inspection had been requested, and were not a blanket determination covering all products made by the company. p
