【Financial News, Incheon = Han Gap-su, reporter】 Incheon Metropolitan City is moving to develop a unified brand for Incheon Museum Park, which is under construction with a 2028 opening as its goal. Since the park will be a multi-purpose cultural space bringing together a municipal museum, a municipal art museum and an art park, the city plans to highlight the distinct character of each facility while establishing the image of a cultural hub representing Incheon.
Incheon Metropolitan City said on the 15th that it will hold a public hearing for residents on the 30th in a meeting room at the Incheon Culture and Arts Center to develop a unified brand for Incheon Museum Park.
The city plans to share the results of citizen perception surveys and expert reviews conducted so far and hear opinions to inform the future brand design and visual information system.
Located in Yonghyeon-Hagik District, Michuhol-gu, Incheon Museum Park is a project to build a new municipal art museum, expand and relocate the existing municipal museum, and develop an art park alongside them. The plan is to create a space that combines cultural and artistic activities with opportunities for relaxation, going beyond simply expanding exhibition facilities.
With several facilities being built in one location, establishing a unified identity has also become important. Their names, design and wayfinding system need to be developed consistently so that residents recognize them as a single cultural space while each institution maintains its independence and distinctive character.
The city has put forward “Incheon Museum Park” as a candidate for the unified name, and “Incheon Municipal Museum” and “Incheon Municipal Art Museum” as candidates for the names of the institutions within it. The proposals were developed by combining the results of two citizen surveys with input from experts in culture, the arts and design. The names are still under review, however, and the city plans to incorporate further public input during the unified brand-development process.
Public input on brand development has been gathered in stages since July. The first citizen perception survey sought views on the space’s role and name, and in August, experts in culture, the arts and design reviewed candidate names through focus group interviews (FGIs). In September, the proposals were fleshed out following a second citizen preference survey and a meeting of experts to select a name.
The public hearing will present the process to date and the proposed names, and discuss the design direction for the unified brand. A presentation on the brand-development direction will be followed by a discussion among experts in spatial design, visual design and branding, as well as a question-and-answer session with residents.
The city plans to flesh out the unified brand and visual information system based on feedback from the public hearing. It will build a consistent brand linking the museum, art museum and art park, and develop the site into a space that conveys Incheon’s cultural identity beyond the functions of its individual facilities.
Jeong Gyeong-won, head of the city’s Cultural Infrastructure Division, said, “We will create a brand that reflects Incheon’s identity and cultural values by incorporating the views of residents and experts.”
