[Financial News] It has belatedly come to light that two male high school students were referred to prosecutors on suspicion of sexually assaulting a female student in the same grade, among other charges. Controversy arose after reports that they graduated without any significant school disciplinary measures and enrolled in university this year.
On the 15th, according to Hankook Ilbo, the Anyang Manan Police Station in Gyeonggi Province and other sources, police referred teenagers A and B without detention to the Suwon District Prosecutors' Office Anyang Branch in January this year on charges including special rape and quasi-special rape under the Act on Special Cases Concerning the Punishment, etc. of Sexual Crimes.
They are accused of raping C, a female classmate in the same grade, at a music practice room in Anyang last May and filming the crime.
After considering the victim's statement, CCTV footage and analysis of seized items, including the suspects' mobile phones, police concluded that the allegations were substantiated.
Photos of several women were found on A's phone, and there were also signs that some of the photos had been deleted.
Police investigated the case without detaining the suspects, taking into account the conflicting accounts of the suspects and the victim, as well as the fact that the suspects were teenagers. A and B are currently reported to deny the charges.
They graduated without receiving any significant disciplinary measures even after the incident was reported as school violence. While the School Violence Countermeasures Committee delayed its decision on what measures to take, they graduated. The education support office reportedly closed the case on the grounds that it was difficult to impose measures on graduates.
Meanwhile, prosecutors have taken over the case and are continuing the investigation.
