【HANOI, Vietnam—Correspondent Kim Jun-seok】South Korean Ambassador to Vietnam Lee Mi-yeon met with the leadership of the Dong Nai City Party Committee to discuss ways to expand cooperation between South Korea and Dong Nai Province.
According to local media on the 15th, Ambassador Lee visited the Dong Nai City Party Committee headquarters on the 14th and met with Võ Tấn Đức, deputy secretary of the committee. A large number of people attended the meeting, including Jeong Jeong-tae, South Korea’s consul general in Ho Chi Minh City; representatives of the Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA) and the Korean Chamber of Commerce in Vietnam (KOCHAM Vietnam); Korean businesspeople operating in Dong Nai City; and officials from various city departments.
Ambassador Lee praised Dong Nai City’s remarkable economic growth over the nine months of this year, saying, “Dong Nai City is further consolidating its position as one of Vietnam’s key economic cities.” She added that these achievements were thanks to the Vietnamese central government and Dong Nai City leaders’ active implementation of policies and efforts to improve administrative procedures.
In response, Deputy Secretary Võ Tấn Đức congratulated Ambassador Lee on taking up her post in Vietnam and called for the embassy’s continued interest and support in promoting exchanges and cooperation between Korean partners and Dong Nai City.
Deputy Secretary Đức explained, “South Korea currently remains the top investor in Dong Nai City, with a total of 469 active projects and cumulative registered investment of approximately $8.37 billion (about 11.3 trillion won).” He also noted that Korean companies make key contributions to industrial production, increased exports and job creation in Dong Nai City.
Dong Nai City said it hopes to actively attract new Korean investment projects featuring advanced technology, modern management systems, resource efficiency and environmental friendliness. It identified high-tech industries, supporting industries, and services linked to logistics and airport economic zones as priority areas for attracting investment.
The city also strongly encouraged Korean companies already operating in Dong Nai City to expand their investments, transfer technology, strengthen cooperation with local Vietnamese businesses, develop talent, and cooperate in research and development and innovation.
Deputy Secretary Đức stressed, “The Dong Nai City government will continue to improve the investment and business environment and actively address difficulties through regular meetings with businesses, doing its utmost to support Korean companies so they can grow in the region over the long term.”
