[Financial News] Korean Register (KR) has launched a pilot service for KR-CRP, a digital platform it developed in-house to strengthen the maritime industry's ability to respond to international regulations on ship cyber resilience. The platform is designed to reduce shipping companies' regulatory compliance burden and improve the efficiency of cybersecurity work by supporting everything from drafting and managing design documents to integration with classification survey work.
KR said on the 15th that it had held the Cyber Resilience Platform Pilot Service Launch event at the Wyndham Grand Hotel in Busan on the 13th and unveiled its in-house-developed ship cyber resilience platform, KR-CRP.
About 90 people attended the event, including executives from major domestic shipping companies and ship management firms such as SK Shipping, H-Line Shipping, Hyundai LNG Shipping, HMM Ocean Service Co., Ltd., and POS SM, as well as representatives of systems integration (SI), security, and IT solutions companies.
At the event, KR held a seminar on international regulations related to ship cybersecurity and response measures, and introduced KR-CRP's key features and uses. It then demonstrated technology for automating classification survey work using KR-CRP and ship security solutions, sharing how the technology could be applied in actual operations.
KR-CRP is a platform that supports the digital drafting and management of design documents required under the International Association of Classification Societies (IACS) cyber resilience requirements (UR E26). It was developed to reduce the workload involved in preparing and obtaining approval for customer documents by integrating with design drawing approvals and classification survey work, and to improve the efficiency of responding to international regulations.
The seminar introduced ISO 27001:2022, the international standard for information security management systems; standard cybersecurity procedures for shore-based managers; and the KR-CRP platform for responding to UR E26, among other topics. Attendees reviewed relevant regulations and response frameworks and shared ways to improve the efficiency of cybersecurity work through digital tools.
KR also announced plans to establish an internal coordination system to support a swift and systematic response when a ship-related cyber incident occurs. The key is to have KR's Convention Survey Team serve as a single point of contact, with coordination among relevant departments linking technical analysis and recovery support with vessel safety assessments and inspection support.
Starting with this pilot service, KR plans to gather customer feedback and continuously improve KR-CRP's functionality and usability, while supporting stronger cybersecurity capabilities across the maritime industry and responses to international regulations.
