[Financial News] Lotte Global Logistics is working to expand logistics services closely integrated into daily life by leveraging its existing parcel delivery network. The company is moving beyond a model in which consumers hand over items themselves or arrange parcel shipments, connecting lifestyle platforms with logistics services to capture new delivery demand.
According to industry sources on the 15th, Lotte Global Logistics is launching a pickup service in partnership with Mini Storage Darak (Darak), a self-storage (shared warehouse) platform. The service combines logistics with the existing model, which required customers to transport their belongings themselves to a storage facility.
When customers request a pickup through the Darak app, Lotte Global Logistics visits the designated location, collects their belongings and transports them to a storage facility. Customers can make a request through the Darak app without separately booking a parcel shipment.
The service is available for personal items that can be packed in standard shipping boxes. Lotte Global Logistics handles pickup and transportation, while Darak is responsible for inspecting items once they arrive at a storage facility, moving them within the facility, storing them and managing inventory. The logistics company and the storage platform divide responsibilities according to their respective areas of expertise.
Darak is a self-storage platform with 250 locations nationwide and a cumulative membership of around 130,000. It offers storage in dedicated spaces in urban areas for items not currently in use, such as seasonal and household goods.
The partnership is significant because it gives Lotte Global Logistics a new customer touchpoint beyond its existing parcel booking channels. Darak users can request transportation services within the platform without searching for a separate logistics provider, while Lotte Global Logistics can tap new logistics demand among Darak’s existing customers.
The combination of storage and transportation is also expected to change how people use self-storage services. Whereas customers previously had to move their items themselves, they will now be able to use a single platform for everything from pickup to storage. In effect, a service centered on storage space is expanding to include transportation.
Starting with this collaboration, Lotte Global Logistics plans to pursue partnerships with other self-storage operators as well. The company aims to tap logistics demand beyond its existing parcel business by integrating pickup and delivery services with lifestyle platforms.
A Lotte Global Logistics official said, “This collaboration is significant because it directly connects our logistics services to the lifestyle platforms our customers use, creating a new service touchpoint.” The official added, “We will continue to expand strategic collaborations with a range of lifestyle platforms to improve customer convenience and broaden platform-linked everyday logistics services.”
