[Financial News] President Lee Jae-myung will meet Evan Greenberg, chairman of the U.S.-Korea Business Council, on the 15th to discuss ways to expand cooperation in Korea-U.S. trade relations and in the economic and industrial sectors. With the implementation of strategic investment in the United States gathering pace, attention is focused on whether the meeting will help broaden communication amid recent concerns over information-sharing between South Korea and the United States.
President Lee is scheduled to meet Chairman Greenberg at Cheong Wa Dae that afternoon and exchange views on boosting investment by companies in both countries and expanding industrial cooperation. Greenberg is chairman and chief executive officer (CEO) of global insurer Chubb.
The meeting is also expected to address key discussions from the 36th plenary meeting of the Korea-U.S. and U.S.-Korea Business Councils, held recently in Seoul. The plenary was jointly organized by the Korea-U.S. Business Council under the Federation of Korean Industries and the U.S.-Korea Business Council under the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.
After hearing the views of the business communities in both countries presented at the plenary, President Lee plans to call on the U.S.-Korea Business Council to play an active bridging role in broadening the foundation for cooperation in investment and industry.
Greenberg took office as the ninth chairman of the U.S.-Korea Business Council in 2024 and has continued private-sector economic diplomacy to connect the governments and businesses of the two countries. The U.S.-Korea Business Council is a major dialogue channel for the U.S. business community and addresses economic issues between South Korea and the United States, including expanding trade and investment.
The Greenberg family also has deep ties to Korea. His father, Maurice Greenberg, served in the Korean War and was the fourth chairman of the U.S.-Korea Business Council from 2003 to 2005.
