At a parliamentary audit response meeting held at the National Assembly on the 15th, DPK floor leader Han Byung-do welcomed the government’s announced plan to relocate 44 central administrative agencies and affiliated institutions to Sejong in phases, and said, “We will press ahead with revising the Special Act, which is necessary for relocating the Ministry of Justice and the ministries responsible for foreign affairs and security, and carefully ensure the budget needed to secure government buildings and prepare for the move.”
Han went on to stress, “We will also look at living conditions, including housing, education and transportation, so that the relocating agencies can continue their work smoothly and civil servants and their families can put down roots in the region.”
DPK Policy Committee Chair Kwon Chil-seung also said, “The way to break the vicious cycle of concentration in the capital region and low birth rates is locally led growth, and its starting point is bringing Sejong to completion,” urging the People Power Party to cooperate in swiftly passing the bill to amend the Special Act.
However, it emerged that discussions at the DPK floor level on specific housing support measures for civil servants relocating to Sejong have yet to take place. Amid reports that the government, including the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, is considering reintroducing special apartment allocations, DPK floor spokesperson Jeon Eun-su told reporters after the meeting that day, “There was no discussion of special allocations.”
