[Financial News] Gmarket is setting out to grow alongside the 660,000 sellers on its online marketplace. The company plans to use artificial intelligence (AI) to make shopping more convenient for customers, while helping sellers boost their competitiveness and sales through greater product visibility and tailored support.
According to industry sources on the 15th, Gmarket held its 2026 Seller Conference over two days starting on the 13th at Shinsegae Namsan in Seoul’s Jung District. About 1,000 sellers attended. James Jang (Korean name: Jang Seung-hwan), CEO of Gmarket, and leaders from business divisions including sales, marketing, tech and logistics shared this year’s key achievements and strategies for supporting sellers next year.
That day, James Jang outlined the changing e-commerce landscape in the AI era and Gmarket’s vision for the future. The company plans to use AI technology to make shopping more convenient and enhance the shopping experience by helping customers explore products themselves and discover items that suit their tastes.
“We will make it possible to enjoy not only convenient shopping through AI agents, but also a more immersive shopping experience in which people discover their personal tastes, all through Gmarket,” Jang said.
Gmarket also unveiled measures to help sellers increase sales. First, it will improve the way hot deals are run to make them easier for sellers to participate in. The company plans to launch a new deals section featuring competitively priced products on the main page of Gmarket’s website for a set period of time.
Lee Min-gyu, head of Gmarket’s sales division, said, “When sellers offer competitive prices, Gmarket will marshal all its resources to maximize product exposure,” adding, “I hope the easier-to-join deals section will help many sellers increase their sales even further.”
Gmarket also announced a new coupon policy to boost sellers’ sales, along with plans to introduce AI agents on its seller management site.
The event also featured tailored consultation booths for sellers. Gmarket set up spaces for consultations on areas including its global cross-border sales business, fulfillment services, AI advertising program and key promotions, introducing support options suited to the needs of each business, from major brands to small and midsize sellers.
Gmarket plans to continue holding conferences and seminars for sellers to strengthen communication and develop support measures that reflect sellers’ needs.
A Gmarket representative said, “It was an opportunity to share the results of seller support initiatives pursued since the launch of the joint venture last year and express our commitment to strengthening support next year so that small and midsize sellers and major brands can grow together.” The representative added, “We will work to communicate closely with sellers and continue growing alongside them to strengthen our competitiveness as an online marketplace.”
