[Financial News] Competition in the bed industry is expanding beyond mattress sleep performance to the use of bedroom space and everyday convenience. Companies are targeting consumers who see a bed not merely as furniture for sleeping, but as an interior design element to choose according to their personal tastes and lifestyles. Manufacturers are also broadening their product ranges by differentiating frame designs and materials, as well as height and additional features.
According to industry sources, Sealy Bed unveiled seven new bed frames on the 15th that consumers can choose according to their bedroom space and lifestyle. The frames feature a wider range of materials, including European fabrics and Italian leather, and vary in bed height and headboard design to improve space efficiency and convenience.
The flagship Bashurang uses European-made Bronx fabric with water- and stain-resistant properties. Side panels can be added, and the headboard has built-in lighting and charging ports. Its legs are 15 cm high, allowing a robot vacuum to pass underneath. The Bashurang TD is a model with a simplified headboard.
Platy uses leather from Italy’s Pisa region, while Kushang and Berg have duck-down filling in their headboards for added comfort when sitting back against them. Both models have tall legs to make use of the space beneath the bed.
The lineup also includes low-profile models with a reduced bed height. Cube uses silicone polyurethane (PU) fabric that resists scratches and stains, while Lucent features a striped design. Sealy Bed plans to broaden its reach to consumers by varying sales channels for each product, including department stores and outlets.
This trend is also evident across the bed industry.
This year, Ace Bed introduced the modular Novella frame, allowing consumers to combine the frame and side panels to suit their bedroom space. Simmons is expanding its range of frames designed for Twin Super Single beds, while Coway has introduced the BEREX Cozy Frame, which allows for various configurations, including single and twin setups.
The criteria for choosing a bed frame are becoming more varied, extending beyond design to include family makeup, sleeping arrangements and bedroom size. In particular, as couples increasingly prioritize their individual sleep environments, twin-style products that place two Super Single beds side by side are also becoming more common.
The industry’s product diversification is also linked to changes in furniture-buying habits. As the number of one-person households grows and housing types become more diverse, demand for making efficient use of bedroom space is becoming increasingly important. As a result, frame size, height and structure are emerging as ways to differentiate products. Competition is moving beyond the traditional emphasis on mattress support and comfort to encompass the experience of using the bedroom as a whole.
A Sealy Korea representative said, “Through products that combine distinctive design and practicality, we will offer restful sleep solutions tailored to a variety of lifestyles.”
