[Financial News] Hyundai Mobis expanded beyond North America by extending to Shanghai its open-innovation platform for finding partners in new business areas such as robotics and semiconductors. The company plans to use the event as a springboard to grow its global robotics innovation network.
On the 15th, Hyundai Mobis said it had held “Mobis Mobility Day (MMD)” in Shanghai, China, on the 14th, inviting promising local companies, automakers, investment institutions and others to discuss robotics and physical AI.
This was the first time this year that the event, which Hyundai Mobis has regularly held in Silicon Valley, North America, was held in China. Hyundai Mobis said the aim was to identify partners with innovative technologies early in new business areas such as robotics and semiconductors, and to secure opportunities for technology development and investment ahead of others.
Hyundai Mobis said it chose Shanghai because of its strong manufacturing base and supply-chain capabilities, as well as the concentration of R&D clusters known as the “Yangtze River Delta,” which makes it easier to find partners.
Around 300 people attended, including representatives of Chinese automakers, C-level executives from leading companies in the local robotics industry, and senior operating executives from global investment institutions.
A Hyundai Mobis official said, “Local stakeholders showed considerable interest after we announced early this year that we had won an order for actuators for humanoid robots,” adding, “After the event, we also met with major companies to discuss areas of interest.”
Hyundai Mobis said it has held MMD since 2022 and has secured partners in mobility fields such as semiconductors and software through the event. Going forward, it plans to use this event as a springboard to expand its global robotics innovation network.
Hyundai Mobis is pursuing an open-innovation strategy aimed at eventual commercialization by identifying partner companies with outstanding new technologies, demonstrating and validating technologies developed jointly or independently, and pursuing strategic collaboration. In addition, separate from its Korea-based organization responsible for strategic investments and partnerships, the company is building cooperative relationships with global companies by leveraging its Silicon Valley investment hub, Mobis Ventures, among others.
