According to Viva Republica on the 15th, Toss is beginning to notify customers of long-unused Toss Money balances in cooperation with the Financial Supervisory Service and major prepaid electronic payment instrument providers.
Eligible customers are those who have not topped up or used Toss Money for at least the past two years and have a balance of 1,000 won or more. Toss plans to notify them of their balances regularly, at least once a year.
However, notifications will be sent only through push notifications in the Toss app. Text messages and email will not be used. This is to prevent customers from confusing official Toss notifications with spoofed messages, amid recent cases of scammers impersonating financial services and urging people to visit links or enter financial information.
Customers can check their balance on the “Toss Money Balance” screen in the Toss app and immediately transfer any amount they choose to an account in their own name. No paperwork, application, or waiting is required. They only need to select the account and amount to transfer.
Toss Money has no expiration date, so it does not expire even if left unused for a long time. After receiving a notification, customers can continue to hold their Toss Money or use it for payments, transfers, and other transactions. They can move it to an account in their own name whenever they wish.
A Toss spokesperson said, “We plan to regularly notify customers so they can more easily check and manage their Toss Money balances,” adding, “We will continue to improve related notifications and usage procedures so customers can manage their assets safely and conveniently.”
