[Financial News] CJ Bioscience said on the 15th that it had signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with The Way Healthcare, a company specializing in digital healthcare, to develop and commercialize microbiome-based personalized healthcare solutions.
Under the agreement, the two companies will cooperate on research and development and distribution of health functional foods, clinical trials and data acquisition, and development of digital healthcare platforms.
First, in the health functional food sector, the companies will use CJ Bioscience’s proprietary strains CJRB-101 and CJRB-402 to develop products for gut and respiratory health. The products will be supplied through The Way Healthcare’s network of affiliated medical institutions, and the companies will also consider expanding into specialized distribution channels in the future, including patient care during cancer treatment.
In clinical research and data, the companies plan to leverage The Way Healthcare’s capabilities in investigator-initiated trials (IITs) and contract research organization (CRO) services to assess the gut-health benefits of microbiome intake and collect related data. They will also pursue data-driven technology cooperation, including the development of a health data management system (HDMS).
In digital healthcare, the companies will also jointly develop a gut-health monitoring app that supports gut microbiome analysis and management of carbohydrate (MAC) intake, as carbohydrates serve as food for the microbes. They plan to expand its use to groups such as cancer patients taking opioid painkillers and develop a personalized health management service model.
A CJ Bioscience representative said, “We will build a business model that links research and development, clinical trials, specialized distribution, and digital healthcare, and strengthen our competitiveness in the microbiome-based personalized healthcare market.”
