【Financial News, Daegu—Reporter Kim Jang-wook】The Daegu Metropolitan Office of Education will devote every effort to protecting educational activities and strengthening student safety.
The Daegu Metropolitan Office of Education will reorganize its structure to respond to changes in the educational environment and the needs of schools.
In particular, the reorganization prioritizes strengthening the protection of educational activities and student safety, creating future education spaces, and supporting schools.
Key changes include establishing an Education Activity Protection Team, expanding and reorganizing the School Space Division, strengthening school commuting safety, innovating assessment through artificial intelligence (AI), and renaming directly affiliated institutions.
Superintendent of Education Kang Eun-hee emphasized, “This reorganization is significant because it establishes an implementation system to turn the vision of ‘Daegu, a global education capital’ into policies that schools can experience firsthand. We will proactively respond to changing educational needs, including AI-based future education, the protection of educational activities, student safety, the creation of future education spaces, and support for schools.”
An Education Activity Protection Team will be established in the Elementary Education Division, effective March 1 next year. The existing Education Rights Protection Center will be expanded and reorganized, with a total of 12 staff members to be assigned, including one senior education supervisor, two education supervisors, one lawyer, safety support officers, administrative staff, and counselors.
The Education Activity Protection Team will provide legal support for issues related to educational activities, including reports accusing teachers of child abuse; respond to school complaints; work to restore teachers’ authority and foster a culture of respect; and provide preventive training on interference with educational activities.
Two teacher support officers will be assigned starting November 1, and their number will be increased to four by March next year. They will provide close, one-on-one support from the time an incident occurs through every stage of its handling.
The student safety management system will also be reorganized with a focus on prevention. The existing Safety Management Division will be renamed the Education Safety Division, and a School Commuting Safety Team will be established. The team will handle safety matters closely related to students’ daily lives, including routes to school and traffic safety, school closed-circuit television (CCTV), safety education buses, school security guards, and school safety alert systems.
The Future Education Research Institute will reorganize its functions, focusing on innovation in AI-based student assessment and support for education in future competencies. The Teaching and Learning Support Division will be renamed the Curriculum Support Division, and the Curriculum and Assessment Division will become the Instruction and Assessment Innovation Division. The Information Operations Division will establish an Information Support Section and an Administrative Information Section.
Two directly affiliated institutions will also be renamed. The Daegu Student Culture Center will become the Daegu Metropolitan Office of Education Arts and Culture Institute, and the Daegu School Support Center will become the Daegu Metropolitan Office of Education School Partnership Institute.
The Arts and Culture Institute will strengthen its role as a hub for arts and culture education in schools, focusing on performances, exhibitions, and arts and culture education. The School Partnership Institute will expand communication with schools and demand-based support.
