【Financial News, Ulsan — Choi Su-sang, reporter】 Allegations have emerged that DN Automotive, a car battery manufacturer, deceived workers by calling the injections “vitamin shots” and administered them to promote the elimination of lead from their bodies. In connection with the allegations, Ulsan Mayor Kim Sang-wook visited DN Automotive’s Ulsan plant on the 14th and heard directly from union members about the harm they had suffered.
After President Lee Jae-myung instructed the Ministry of Employment and Labor and the police on the 12th to conduct a thorough investigation into the allegations, Ulsan Mayor Kim Sang-wook, the head of the local government with jurisdiction, also appears to have visited the affected workers in person.
Workers at DN Automotive’s Ulsan plant have recently been speaking out to the media about the harm they experienced. During Mayor Kim Sang-wook’s visit that day, workers affected by the chelation injections—which promote the elimination of lead—reportedly also appealed about their plight.

The Ministry of Employment and Labor believes the company had workers receive chelation injections to conceal their lead levels, out of concern that tests would show elevated levels before special health examinations. It has asked the police to investigate the company on suspicion of obstruction of business.
The police called in DN Automotive executive A for questioning on the 13th. They are reportedly investigating A about how the injections came to be administered and whether there was intent behind them.
