[Financial News] SK Gas has set a target of achieving average annual pretax profit of at least 450 billion won in 2027–2030 by investing in North American gas fields, expanding its overseas customer base and diversifying its gas product lineup. It expects to begin growth investments in 2027, with new businesses making a full contribution to earnings from 2031.
On the 14th, SK Gas held a CEO Investor Day at the Conrad Seoul hotel in Yeouido, Seoul, for domestic and overseas institutional investors and analysts, and announced a growth strategy and capital allocation plan to guide the company over the next 10 years. SK Gas CEO Yoon Byung-seok gave the presentation himself and took questions from investors.
SK Gas’s average annual pretax profit rose more than threefold, from about 100 billion won in 2015–2019 to the 300-billion-won range in 2020–2025. Its cash dividend per share increased 4.5-fold, from 2,000 won in 2015 to 9,000 won in 2025, while its total shareholder return (TSR) averaged at least 17% annually over the past 10 years.
SK Gas identified “optionality”—adjusting procurement and supply methods in response to market conditions to generate additional profits—as a key source of earnings from its existing business. On that basis, it aims to achieve average annual pretax profit of at least 450 billion won in 2027–2030.
The company divided its future growth strategy into three areas: customers, supply and sales networks, and products. First, it will explore business opportunities to meet rising demand for power and utilities amid the spread of artificial intelligence (AI), making use of existing infrastructure such as its Ulsan liquefied natural gas (LNG) and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) terminals and LNG/LPG dual-fuel power plants.
The company also plans to expand its operating regions. It will assess the commercial viability and risks of North American gas fields and other opportunities as it considers investing in resource development and production. It will also seek to secure overseas customers by leveraging its existing trading capabilities and LNG/LPG dual-fuel power generation model.
It will also broaden its product lineup. The company plans to add ethane (C2), expanding its gas products from methane (C1) to ethane (C2), propane (C3) and butane (C4), and to increase its procurement and sales options depending on market conditions.
SK Gas has designated 2027–2030 as a period for executing growth investments and expects new businesses to begin making a full contribution to earnings from 2031. It plans to consider growth investments, including mergers and acquisitions (M&A), while maintaining a balance with shareholder returns.
On the previous day, the 13th, SK Gas also announced plans to buy back and cancel a total of 90 billion won in treasury shares from 2026 to 2028, at 30 billion won each year. It said the board had approved the acquisition of 30 billion won worth of treasury shares for this year, and that it planned to begin buying them through a trust agreement starting on the 14th.
Yoon said, “Building on our stronger earnings power, we will prepare for another leap forward and continue to grow alongside our shareholders.”
