President Lee shared an article on X (formerly Twitter) on the 14th reporting that three people who operated and developed an illegal gambling site involving 3.1 trillion won had been arrested in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). He wrote, “You cannot escape the judgment of the law by hiding overseas.”
The arrests were made through cooperation between the Special Task Force on Transnational Crimes (TF) and the UAE government. Calling them “the result of close cooperation between the Special Task Force on Transnational Crimes and the UAE government,” President Lee thanked the UAE government for assisting with the investigation, as it had in July. He also expressed his gratitude to UAE President Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan on behalf of the people of South Korea.
President Lee also reaffirmed his resolve to repatriate the criminals to South Korea and recover the criminal proceeds. “We will pursue criminals to the end, repatriate them to South Korea, and thoroughly recover criminal proceeds,” he said, adding, “We will leave no gaps in our response to cross-border crime and protect the everyday lives of our people.”
