【Pune, India = Reporter Kim Dong-ho】 Hyundai Motor Group Chairman Chung Eui-sun laid out a mid- to long-term vision to invest $15.5 billion (approximately 20.8 trillion won) in India by 2032. The strategy is to go beyond “Make in India” and expand into local design and technological innovation, developing India into a key hub for global production and exports, as well as research and development (R&D). Chung emphasized in particular, “I want us to become a company that grows together with India by continuing to invest beyond automobiles in areas such as artificial intelligence (AI) and energy.”
At the inauguration ceremony for the new Pune plant, held on the 14th (local time) in Talegaon, Maharashtra, India, Chung said, “We are now moving from ‘Make in India’ to ‘Design in India’ and ‘Innovate in India.’” He added, “The inauguration of the Pune plant is an important milestone for Hyundai Motor.”
Hyundai Motor will invest $15.5 billion in India from this year through 2032. Key areas include building new production facilities, strengthening R&D capabilities, expanding local supply chains and developing future technologies. The company is also pursuing the establishment of a dedicated entity to identify and coordinate investment projects at the group level.
Chung described the “new chapter” as becoming “a company that grows together with India.” He said, “India has been a key pillar in Hyundai Motor’s global growth over the past 30 years,” adding, “Going forward, I want us to become a company that grows together with India as we expand our investments into AI, robotics and future energy, including hydrogen.”
Asked for his thoughts on marking the sixth anniversary of taking office at the inauguration ceremony for the new Pune plant, he said, “What matters most to us is our human resources,” adding, “It is my mission to develop them further and ensure that we stay ahead in technology and quality.”
