[Financial News] The review process is expected to begin after the fact-finding team of the Ministry of Justice's Committee for the Future of Respect for Human Rights in the Prosecution Service (Future Committee) completes its investigations into the Wirye New Town development corruption case, the statistics manipulation case and the West Sea civil servant shooting case, among others, and submits its report.
According to legal sources on the 14th, the fact-finding team is reported to have recently submitted to the Supreme Prosecutors' Office its findings on three cases: the Wirye New Town development corruption case, the Moon Jae-in administration's statistics manipulation case and the West Sea civil servant shooting case.
The Prosecutorial Future Committee is expected to hold a meeting on the 15th, receive the investigation findings and then deliberate on whether there were human rights violations or abuse of prosecutorial authority during the investigation and prosecution processes.
The fact-finding team reportedly conducted a written inquiry with the investigation team at the time and submitted a report compiling the relevant responses.
The Wirye New Town case involves allegations that President Lee Jae-myung provided inside information to private developers while serving as mayor of Seongnam, helping them be selected as project operators and enabling them to reap profits.
In 2023, prosecutors indicted President Lee without detaining him on charges including violating the Anti-Corruption Act. His trial has been suspended since he took office.
Last June, the Future Committee selected seven cases for its first round of investigations: △Ssangbangwool's remittances to North Korea △the Daejang-dong development corruption case △the case involving Kim Yong, former vice president of the Institute for Democracy △Wirye New Town △the West Sea civil servant shooting △statistics manipulation △alleged false reports in the “defamation of Yoon Suk Yeol” case.
It subsequently added 12 more cases, including Baekhyeon-dong and Seongnam FC, bringing the total number of cases under investigation to 19.
