[Financial News] Kookmin University announced on the 14th that Professor Ravi Gupta of its College of Future Convergence had been named to the 2026 World's Top 2% Scientists list for the third consecutive year.
The list, jointly published by Stanford University and Elsevier, selects researchers with high research impact in each academic field by analyzing paper citation metrics and other indicators from the Scopus academic database.
Professor Gupta has studied how plants fight pathogens and adapt to environmental stress. The research focuses on using mass spectrometry to analyze proteins and identify those involved in plants' defense responses and their functions.
According to Kookmin University, the professor has published at least 190 papers to date, which have been cited over 5,500 times.
Recently, Professor Gupta has been studying the role of chemical changes to proteins induced by nitric oxide in rice immune responses. These changes, which occur after proteins are produced, regulate their activity and function. The research aims to determine how this process affects immune signaling and pathogen defense in rice.
The research team is seeking proteins and genetic resources that could be used to improve disease resistance in crops. The long-term goal is to apply these findings to crop breeding to reduce yield losses caused by disease and the burden of pesticide use.
Professor Gupta said, "This achievement is thanks to the efforts of the fellow researchers and students I have worked with," adding, "It is a great motivation to continue research into plant immunity and stress responses."
